How long have you been with Peninsula Wealth? What attracted you to the firm in the first place?

I started at Peninsula Wealth in April of 2012 but actually knew Rahul before he started the firm. The ideas he had for the way Peninsula Wealth would work with clients really resonated with me.

Tell us a little about yourself that isn't financial services based!

I was born and raised here in the bay area but went to college at the University of Arizona in Tucson. I love living here because I enjoy the outdoors – primarily skiing.

What makes financial planning exciting for you?

I find financial markets truly fascinating in how it impacts our clients. I want to be a sounding board for our clients and ultimately help them make sound and disciplined decisions. Our clients have worked hard to earn their wealth. It should be theirs for years to come.

What are people constantly asking you at barbecues (i.e. what free advice are people always looking for?)?

The questions usually run the gamut. Those with kids typically ask about 529 plans.  Others who are on the younger side tend to ask about the latest stock that’s in the headlines and what I think about xyz hot stock.

What advice do you have for people who are considering financial planning services?

Understand the services you are receiving and how the advisor is compensated. Make sure your advisor is transparent with you regarding the investments you are being put into as well as how the advisor is compensated for those investments. Lastly understand your risk tolerance and know that markets do go down for periods of time and you need to be able to stomach those air pockets in the market if you want higher returns on your investments.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I do enjoy the intellectual curiosity of the financial markets and understanding what truly drives good long term returns on assets for our clients.

What do you think is the biggest misconception about financial planning and what would you say to people to correct it?

Most people think of financial planning as trying to pick the right stock. I always try to get people to see the bigger picture. I usually tell people that it’s trying to piece together all aspects of a person’s financial life so that we can create a winning wealth strategy.
